Backpacking up North 2 : Surfing in La Union

data-ad-format="link">
Leaving Pangasinan
From Lucap, Alaminos I went straight to Victory Liner Bus terminal. I had to take the Dagupan bound bus and catch another bus from there going to La Union. There was no airconditioned bus so I took the ordinary one. It was an hour ride for P66.

From Dagupan, I had to take a Baguio bound bus and stop at Agoo and took another bus ride going to La Union. I know there were some buses going straight to La Union but I did not have time to find it or I was just too lazy to find it :). It was another 1 hour ride from Dagupan to Agoo for P47 and an hour and 30 minutes from Agoo to San Fernando for P50. It was an easy ride!

Arriving in La Union
It was already dark when I arrived in San Fernando so I had to look for a cheap hotel to stay. I found Mikka Hotel, asked the receptionist how much was the rate and inspected the room. It was good enough to stay for 1 night. It was clean with hot and cold water and cable TV for P750/night. The location was perfect... along the national highway and surrounded with restaurants and grocery store.

Surfing Time
I slept a little late and woke up really late so I did not have the time to roam around the city. Instead, I went straight to Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union to try surfing. It was just a 10-15 minutes ride by jeep.

I stayed at Surfer's Inn and paid P350 for 1 night stay. The room was ok and the owner was kind enough to host me.

The waves were not too big just enough for a beginner like me. So I rented a surf board and did a short lesson and paid P300. It was not that easy and was not that difficult either. Must be because the waves were just right for me to start learning the art of surfing. It was a great experience and I look forward to anther surfing lesson somewhere else, probably in Baler, Aurora?

Day is Over
I had dinner at Sebay Resto and paid P170 for a bottle of beer and Bangus ala pobre meal. The food was good.

After dinner, I had to go back to my room to change my outfit and went night swimming for a while. There was no night life except for videoke so I just went back to my room and sleep early.

The day after, I woke up early to get some fresh air at beachfront. The sea was calm. I was planning to stay for another night but the owner of the guesthouse I stayed said it was not a good time to surf as the waves were too small. So, I packed my things and head to my next destination : Vigan.
