The East Africa Visa serves as your multiple entry pass in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda good for 90 days.

Validity of East Africa Visa

The East Africa Visa is valid for up to 90 days. You can move around the three countries as you like without applying for a second visa. So, for instance, you can cross Uganda and Kenya multiple times within the 90 days period. The East Africa Visa will expire once you move out to another country. Let’s say, on your 30th day you cross Tanzania or any other country, you will need another visa to re-enter in either of those three countries.

Furthermore, the East Africa visa is not extendable.

East African Visa Requirements

Applying for an East Africa visa is very easy and straightforward. The requirements are:

  • Copy of the passport (Bio-data page)
  • Copy of recent Passport size
  • Photograph
  • Travel itinerary
  • Vaccination Certificate (Yellow fever) – Yellow Card
  • Return Ticket
  • Hotel Booking Confirmation

Step by Step Process on How to Apply for East African Visa

Once you have collected the entire list of required documents, you may then start following these steps:

If your first entry is Kenya, you may obtain your East Africa Visa at the certified Kenyan Embassy or Consular office in your country. For instance, here below are some of the Kenya consular sections:

If your first entry is Rwanda, you may start to apply for East Africa Visa through the Rwanda Immigration website. You may apply at https://irembo.gov.rw/rolportal/en/web/dgie/east-africa-tourist-visa. Foreigners who reside in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda do not pay for this visa. They will have to request an interstate pass at the Immigration counters while exiting their country of residence to any of the 2 other countries.

If your first entry is Uganda, it’s highly recommended to visit Uganda Immigration website and fill out the online application form with complete details of arrival and departure date and other necessary information. You can apply at https://visas.immigration.go.ug/ – select visa in the visa or permit type and East Africa Tourist Visa in the Category

After paying the corresponding amount, you will receive a confirmation of your application. Visa approval should be within 3-5 business days. You should print a copy of the approval as you will have to present it at the point of entry. You will then receive a sticker of your East Africa Visa.

If your country is eligible for a visa on arrival, you can also get your East Africa Visa on arrival.

East Africa Visa Fee

The East Africa Visa fee is USD100. For online applications, the payment must be paid online. A 3% surcharge will be added if you apply from the Ugandan immigration site.
