Here’s a short guide on how to cross the Visayas to Mindanao and vice-versa using the San Ricardo Port (Benit) in Southern Leyte and Lipata Port in Surigao City. (Read: Surigao City Travel Guide)
This route is the easiest way to cross between Visayas and Mindanao as it will only take an hour and a half for the ferry ride. It is currently being served by Montenegro Shipping Lines. Here’s the schedule and rates of the ferry service.
The Port Terminal is located in Lipata, Surigao City, about 20-30 minutes away from the City Proper. The Port Terminal in San Ricardo is in Benit Port.
Montenegro Shipping Lines Ferry Schedule
There is no definite time of departure, and it depends on the volume of cargo. Expect a longer waiting time. The schedule is usually between 6am-9am and then between 12nn-5pm.
If you are traveling on a tight schedule, we highly recommend taking the Surigao-Maasin ferry service at Surigao Port.
Passenger Fare & Travel Time
The travel time from Lipata to San Ricardo and vice-versa is around 1.5 hours. The passenger fare is Php308.
